Serra said he was well aware of Botti's sacrifice and service.
The local legion celebrated the long and distinguished career of Command Sgt. Maj. John Botti, who will be retiring from the Army Reserves in a few months after 37 years of service.
State Sen. Paul Doyle, D Wethersfield, presented Botti with a citation from the state general assembly, thanking Botti for his decades of service to the country and to the state.
Botti is currently with the Reserve's 4th Battalion, 415th Regiment in West Hartford.

In 1992, he was assigned to the 405th Combat Support Hospital in the Emergency Medical Treatment section.
During that time, he was deployed to Iraq for Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
In 1997, he served with the 405th's Combat Support Hospital as part of the Area Support Medical Battalion, Sustainment Forces at Guardian Base during Operation Joint Guard in Bosnia, according to the biography.

In 2005, he returned stateside and was assigned to the Combat Support Hospital in West Hartford, where he serves today.
Botti was graduated from Xavier High School and Vinal Regional Technical School before enlisting in the Army in 1975.
He received a certificate as an Emergency Medical Technician from City Colleges of Chicago in 1977.

In December of 1999, Botti served as the Command Sgt. Maj. Maj. of the 304th Civil Affairs Brigade in Philadelphia, Penn. from 2002 to 2005.
Botti began his military career at Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 6th Infantry, Berlin Brigade where he served in several medical positions before being transferred to the Army Reserves.
