The TFVIAC, funded by the Ministry of Community and Social Services, is an ad hoc coordinating committee whose mandate is to enhance the capacity of member organizations in Timmins to better respond to the needs of women and children experiencing violence. The committee adopts a variety of strategies to work towards ending violence against women and their children in our community, such as establishing appropriate linkages between services, working collaboratively to effectively coordinate services, raising awareness about issues of family violence and providing a forum for information sharing and problem solving. Increasing the safety and wellbeing for all women and their children is the TFVIAC's main priority, the news release continues.

November is Women Abuse Prevention Month, and the program managers of the shelters, who are also members of the Action committee, recently met with the mayor who signed a proclamation declaring November as Women Abuse Prevention Month. Violence against women is a widespread societal problem that does not discriminate against age, race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation or language. It affects all women, regardless of their social or economical situation. November is National Women Abuse Prevention Month, and the Prada Wallet Purple
against women and children. The message is clear: All forms of violence and abuse are unacceptable. Every November, the TFVIAC hosts an "Abuse Shatters Lives" conference which is geared toward professionals who support women and children. This year marks the 3rd annual conference which will be held on November 17th and 18th. It promises to be an eye opener, with topics such as relationship terrorism, aboriginal residential schools and cyber risk. fact, the City of Timmins will soon be welcoming two new 10 bed women shelters to our area. One of the shelters will offer French language services and the other will be administered with an Aboriginal perspective. Tranquility House, the shelter located in Matheson, will continue offering services, enabling women to choose the service which will best meet their needs. The three shelter Program Managers, Louise Larivire of Villa RenouvELLEment, Rachelle Walker of the Timmins and Area Women in Crisis and Kim Nadeau of Tranquility House have been meeting regularly to establish protocols which will ensure a seamless delivery of services to all women and their children who experience violence.
